The Hamsa and the evil eye are two separate protective symbols, and this pendant puts one inside the other.
The hand is cut as an outline rather than a solid plate, so the pendant stays light on the chain and reads clearly against skin or a shirt.
At the centre of the hand is an open eye, and the birthstone is the pupil. Choosing the month turns a symbol that belongs to everyone into one that belongs to a particular person: a birth month, a child, a date worth marking.
Sterling silver is the base metal in all three finishes, so the gold and rose gold options are the same pendant with a 24K or rose gold plating over it.

The Hamsa is worn across the Middle East and North Africa, by Jewish and Muslim families alike, and it means the same thing in both: a hand held up against harm. The evil eye inside it watches for the same reason.
Adding a birthstone is what turns it from a symbol into a message. A mother who orders her daughter's stone is saying something specific, and so is a friend who orders the month of the year everything changed.

Q: Is the whole necklace sterling silver?
A: The base is 925 sterling silver in all three options. The gold and rose gold versions are that same sterling silver pendant and chain with a 24K gold or rose gold plating over it. None of the three is solid gold, and it is not sold as such.
Q: Which birthstone will I get?
A: The one for the month you type. The chart photo in this listing shows all twelve colours. If you want a colour that does not match your month, write the colour and I will use it.
Q: Will the plating wear off?
A: Plating is a surface layer and it will wear over years of daily contact, faster if it meets perfume, chlorine or the sea. Take the necklace off before swimming and before a shower and it will keep its colour far longer. Sterling silver has nothing to wear off and only needs an occasional polish.
Q: How big is it really?
A: The pendant is 14.3 mm by 16 mm, a little over half an inch. It is meant to be noticed up close rather than across a room, which is why it layers well with other chains.
Q: Which length should I choose?
A: 18 inches is the usual adult choice. Go to 16 if you want it high at the base of the neck, and 20 or 22 if you want it visible over a top or layered under a longer chain. 14 inches is a child size.
Q: Can I order it for a man?
A: Yes. The pendant is unisex, and on a 20 or 22 inch chain it wears as a men's piece. Sterling silver with a dark stone is the usual choice.
