The child hearts are cut from the mother pendant, not made to look like it, so each one drops into its own notch and only fits there.
That is the whole point of the piece: hold them together, and the heart is whole; wear them apart, and each person is still carrying the shape of the others.
Sterling silver takes a fine engraved line better than plated base metal, which matters at 6.8 mm, where an initial is only a few millimeters tall. The gold and rose gold finishes are plated over the same 925 silver, so the engraving is cut into silver in all three colors.
It suits Mother's Day, a birthday, Christmas, a new baby, a graduation, or the year a family moves apart.

CHOOSING THE CHAIN LENGTHS

14" sits at the base of the throat and is the usual choice for a young child.
16" sits on the collarbone, 18" just below it, and 18" is what most adults pick.
20" and 22" fall onto the chest and suit a higher neckline or a taller frame.
You can mix lengths freely inside one set, and most families order 18" for mom and 14" or 16" for the children.

This one is the opposite.
She keeps the large heart, and each daughter keeps the piece that came out of it, so the gift is something the whole family wears at the same time, even if they're in different cities.

Q: Is the gold solid gold?
A: No. It is 24K gold plating over 925 sterling silver. Solid gold at this size would cost many times the price.
Q: Will the plating wear off?
A: Plating is a surface layer, and it thins with years of daily wear.
Keep it away from perfume, chlorine and cleaning products, and take it off at night. The sterling silver version has nothing to wear off.
Q: How many characters fit on a heart?
A: One initial per heart. The child hearts are 6.8 mm, so a single letter is what engraves clearly.
Q: Can I order more than four child hearts?
A: Message me before ordering, and I will set it up for you.
Q: Can I add a heart later?
A: Yes. Message me, and I will make a matching engraved heart for the set you already own.
Q: Does sterling silver tarnish?
A: It can darken over time, which is normal for 925 silver. A soft polishing cloth brings it back.
Q: Do the pieces really fit together?
A: Yes. They are cut from the same heart, so each child piece seats into its own notch.
